چکیده

Process capability index Cpk has been widely used in the manufacturing industry as a process performance measure. In this paper, we investigate the natural estimator of the index Cpk, and show that under the assumption of normality its distribution can be expressed as a mixture of the chi-square and the normal distributions. We also implement the theory of hypothesis testing using the natural estimator of Cpk, and provide efficient Maple programs to calculate the p-values as well as the critical values for various values of a-risk, capability requirements, and sample sizes. The behavior of the p-values and critical values as functions of the distribution parameters are investigated to obtain tight critical values for reliable testing. Based on the test, we develop a simple and practical procedure for in-plant applications. The practitioners can use the proposed procedure to determine whether their process meets the preset capability requirement, and make reliable decisions. q 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Measuring process capability based on CPK with gauge measurement errors

The well-known process capability index CPK has been popularly used in the manufacturing industry for measuring process reproduction capability. Existing research papers related to CPK have assumed with no gauge measurement errors. Unfortunately, such assumption does not reflect real situations accurately even with highly sophisticated advanced measuring instruments. Conclusions drawn from proc...

Assessing process performance with incapability index based on fuzzy critical value

Process capability indices are considered as an important concept in statistical quality control. They have been widely used in the manufacturing industry to provide numerical measures on process performance. Moreover, some incapability indices have been introduced to account the process performance. In this paper, we focus on the one proposed by Chen ~cite{Che:Stat}. In today's modern world, a...

A DMAIC approach for process capability improvement an engine crankshaft manufacturing process

The define–measure–analyze–improve–control (DMAIC) approach is a five-strata approach, namely DMAIC. This approach is the scientific approach for reducing the deviations and improving the capability levels of the manufacturing processes. The present work elaborates on DMAIC approach applied in reducing the process variations of the stub-end-hole boring operation of the manufacture of cra...

Process capability improvement of an engine connecting rod machining process

Statistical process control is an excellent quality assurance tool to improve the quality of manufacture and ultimately scores on end-customer satisfaction. SPC uses process monitoring charts to record the key quality characteristics (KQCs) of the component in manufacture. This paper elaborates on one such KQC of the manufacturing of a connecting rod of an internal combustion engine. Here th...

The Effect of Gauge Measurement Capability and Dependency Measure of Process Variables on the MCp

It has been proved that process capability indices provide very efficient measures of the capability of processes from many different perspectives. These indices have been widely used in the manufacturing industry for measuring process reproduction capability according to manufacturing specifications. In the past few years, univariate capability indices have been introduced and used to characte...
